Bochum, a lively university city with 370,000 inhabitants, is located in the heart of the Ruhr Metropolis, which, with its 5 million inhabitants, is the largest economic region in Europe. The service and education sector have taken over the area which was once dominated by mining and industry. With its six universities, Bochum is an established economic stronghold – The Ruhr Metropolis with 14 universities and over 150 further non-university education, research and development establishments has developed into one of the most important scientific locations in Europe. And it is not only famous due to this: its many theatres, concert halls, cinemas and museums also make the region Europe's densest cultural location. The Ruhr Metropolis has been awarded with the title “European Capital of Culture” in 2010.

Ruhr University Bochum
The 7th International Workshop on Reliable Engineering Computing (REC 2016) is hosted by Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). Founded in 1965, RUB has grown to be home to 5,600 employees and more than 41,000 students from 130 countries. All the great scientific disciplines are united on one compact campus with 20 faculties (disciplinary institutional units) and seven interfaculty and interdisciplinary Research Departments, which are mutually, nationally and internationally networked. The RUB Research School is an international college for structured doctoral research in the life sciences, natural sciences, engineering, the humanities and social sciences. Added to this is an unsurpassed programme for the promotion of Early Career Researchers, and an excellent infrastructure. What makes it all come alive is the people who meet on campus with their thirst for knowledge, their curiosity, and their commitment. They help shape the RUB and their open-mindedness makes the RUB an attractive place for people from around the world.
